Amid the controversy over alleged forced conversion and suicide of a high school girl in Thanjavur district of Tamil Nadu, the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) protested against the Tamil Nadu Government and missionary organisations. The ABPV also sought a CBI enquiry in the case of Lavanya's suicide.
During the protest at Tamil Nadu Bhavan in the national Capital, the ABVP activists demanded that the Tamil Nadu Government follow the Supreme Court's guidelines to call for a CBI enquiry to ensure a fair and judicial investigation and demanded the release of the arrested activists as soon as possible.
“The ABVP also demanded to introduce new laws against forced conversions to stop the increasing cases of conversion in the State, so that cases like Lavanya's suicide can be prevented,” said a ABVP spokesperson.
