The Culture Counsellor of the Ambassador of Spain has alleged that her Apple laptop and mobile tablet which she was carrying with her while she was on her way to Delhi was stolen from IGI Airport.

Marta Saloman Moreno reached Delhi and registered an FIR at the Tughlaq Road police station. Police have started investigation but are yet to trace any of her belongings. No arrest has been made in this case so far.

She has alleged that the laptop contained several sensitive details related to her country.

Moreno said she did not know when her laptop and tablet were stolen. “My laptop (Apple Mcbook Air) and tablet (Samsung galaxy) which belongs to the Embassy of Spain were stolen either in Kolkata or Delhi. I travelled from Kolkata to Delhi by an Indigo flight(6E 67888). The flight left Netaji Shubhash Chandra Bose International Airport at 10.35 on Monday and landed at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport at 1 pm,” Moreno told police.

She further said the electronic items were either stolen when she was boarding her flight in Kolkata or when she arrived at IGI airport.

A case under section 379 (punishment for theft) was registered at the Tughlaq Road police station on the diplomat’s complaint. A police official of New Delhi district said that the FIR is being transferred to IGI police station as the case pertains to theft inside the airport premises.

This is the not the first incident of theft that has been reported from IGI airport. Many cases of theft of clothes and even accessories such as perfumes have been reported in the recent past.

It may be recalled that The Pioneer had reported the theft of `1.51 lakh worth foreign currency from possession of  former Home Secretary and now the Chairman of International Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO). Goyal, who was flying to Hong Kong on an official visit last year, when his bag containing foreign currency was pilfered. The case is still pending investigation as there has been no breakthrough in this case.
