Politics of zero-sum game?

The BJP on Monday hit out at the AAP, blaming it for misleading people about its ‘Zero Raid’ policy during its 49-day rule in Delhi. An RTI query by the party has revealed that there were over 151 raids conducted during the AAP’s 49-day Government. The Delhi BJP chief also claimed that he has prepared a dossier of “309 lies” of AAP and that his party would blow the lid off these big lies.

The State unit of the BJP on Monday accused AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal of “misleading” the city’s traders by claiming that raids against commercial establishments went down during the party’s 49-day rule in Delhi. Citing Right to Information (RTI) data, BJP president Satish Upadhyay said that between January 5 and February 14, 2014, when AAP was at the helm in Delhi, 151 raids were conducted on commercial establishments.

“Of these, 51 raids were conducted from January 5 to 31 and when it became clear that their Government was not going to last long in Delhi, another 100 raids were conducted from February 1 to February 14, which accounts to about 10 raids daily,” said Upadhyay. He further said that the claims about Value Added Tax (VAT) revenue collected by the AAP Government were also false. “AAP’s claim of collecting Rs5,666 crore as VAT is completely false. According to the VAT Department, only Rs2,033 crore was collected by the Kejriwal Government,” he said.

The AAP chief on December 29 had held a rally to woo the traders of Delhi in Nehru Place where he had said that raids against traders had gone down under his watch while the revenue collected had increased significantly. The party also accused Kejriwal of adopting “hit-and-run” policy, claiming that AAP only puts allegations and when time comes to prove them, they “run away”. “He (Kejriwal) is misleading the traders of Delhi,” he added.
