The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has approved yet another ‘smart city’ surrounding East Delhi’s Sanjay lake. The DDA will develop the lake City Complex at Sanjay lake on transit-oriented development (TOD) mode which will be the second such project after the proposed commercial-cum-residential hub at Karkardooma.
The project includes an integrated commercial and housing complex along with rejuvenation of Sanjay lake which is spread over an area of 10.26 hectares of land. The project was approved in the Board meeting of DDA headed by lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung on Wednesday.
DDA officials said the lake City Complex will be developed on the concept of smart city that will be equipped with all facilities like residential flats, commercial units, medical facilities, green area as well as restaurants, arcades, amphitheatre, pedestrian footpaths and cycle tracks among others.
“A mixed use commercial and housing development will be taken up on 25 acres of land adjoining Sanjay lake. A lakefront promenade will be created that will give the surrounding a beautiful look. The lake City Complex will house restaurants, food courts and eateries that will also attract visitors,” DDA vice-chairman Balvinder Kumar said. The other features of the complex include shopping centres, hotels, sports club, hospital and working women hostels.
“The upcoming metro station in the area will be the centre of development and shopping arcades will be provided at metro stations,” officials said, adding work on the project is expected to commence by this year-end.
“The overall project will be on 10.26 hectares of land and will be developed in partnership with National Building Construction Corporation (NBCC). It will have mixed development like old age homes, recreational and sports facilities and all the development will be done in a manner so that the area becomes vibrant and is safe from all aspects,” a senior official said.
As per the proposal, emphasis will be laid on rejuvenation of the Sanjay lake which is shrinking day by day. “No permanent construction work will be undertaken within the park and all interventions will be done to enhance the water quality and recharge of the lake to make the area safer and more usable as a park for the public,” the proposal said.
