Delhi lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung on Monday visited various night shelters to take stock of preparedness in view of the onset of winter in the city. He went to Yamuna Pusta, Yamuna Bazar (near Hanuman Mandir), Jama Masjid and Asaf Ali Road as part of his visit to review the arrangements and facilities available in the night shelters here. Besides, Jung also directed the Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB), Delhi Police and other civic agencies to take proactive measures in order to provide basic amenities and security to the people living in these shelters.
In his visit he reviewed the arrangements for food, security, medical facilities and available infrastructure in the night shelters. Drawing special attention towards the needs of homeless women and children, Jung said, “It is extremely important to protect them as they are the most vulnerable. I appreciate the role of various NGOs. There needs to be a policy on the issue and all the officials must ensure proper treatment to people who are in need of State support.”
Interacting with residents of the Yamuna Bazar night shelter, Jung assured them of using vacant places as a permanent night shelter there. The NGO Aman Bradri which runs the night shelter near Jama Masjid requested for an open area near the shelter for making a playground for the children to which the l-G agreed to consider their request. He also went to Yamuna Pusta night shelter, where he visited the medical room and expressed his satisfaction with the shelter.
