The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Sunday targeted lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung saying that the Delhi administration under the rule of the Central Government has not spent more than half the money earmarked for the developmental projects for residents of the national Capital during the current financial year.
Releasing facts and figures of the nine spent months of the current fiscal year, senior party members questioned the Government as to why the people of Delhi have been “kept deprived of their rights.” It may be noted that The Pioneer had carried a story titled “Delhi stares at huge Budget cut for want of governanance” on its December 13 issue. The story highlighted the state of inertia that has gripped in the admini-stration under President’s Rule.
Taking a cue from The Pioneer story, the AAP launched a broadside against the lt Governor. The party alleged, “The Delhi administration under directions from the BJP has kept this money unspent till the last moment so that its leaders could organise foundation stone laying ceremonies to fool the people.”
To support their allegations, the party created 20 slides on the promises made in the Delhi Budget presented by the Central Government in Parliament in July and how the reality is completely different. The slides talk of all sectors including health, education, water, power, etcetera.
“The model code of conduct will come into force the very moment the Election Commi-ssion will announce the dates and schedule for the Assembly elections, then why has this planned outlay not been spent till now,” said a party leader.
Questioning the l-G and BJP, the party added, “The Delhi administration can’t deny that on November 17, the Chief Secretary had convened a meeting of all secretaries and directed them to ensure foundation laying stone ceremonies of some projects quickly. Was this not done to give BJP an unfair advantage by doing these functions to fool the peopleIJ In fact the Chief Secretary convened another meeting in the near future to follow-up on these programmes which can be presided over by BJP office-bearers.”
