“The l-G reviewed the progress of desilting. 370 areas that is prone to water-logging has been identified as vulnerable,” a statement from the l-G’s office stated.

In the meeting, Baijal directed the authorities to take up water harvesting along roads. He also instructed that deployment of traffic police be increased to deal with possible jams due to water-logging during the rainy season and urged people to dispose garbage at approved sites.

It was directed that the drains must be properly connected to sewage lines so that there is a proper discharge of water. He further added that water-logging results in disruption of the normal flow of traffic besides causing a lot of inconvenience to all road users.

The l-G further instructed the Principal Secretary of Public Works Department (PWD) to ensure proper cleaning of all drains, which come under it. A feedback mechanism should be developed on which people can report the problem of water-logging by sending pictures.

“There should be an adequate number of functional water pump sets installed at vulnerable locations along with operating staff. PWD, DJB and local bodies were directed to lay down a proper operating procedure for this so that there are no complaints of dysfunctional pumps or absence of authorised manpower at the time of need,” it said.

The meeting was attended by PWD Minister Satyendar Jain and other officers of the Government.
