Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena on Monday directed the Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora to "strictly ensure" if there were any "lapses "on part of the police in the gruesome Kanjhawala incident in which a woman was killed after her scooter was hit by a car and she was dragged for 10-12 kilometres in outer part of the city. He instructed the city police chief to ensure that the accused were treated as per the law irrespective of their socio-economic position or political affiliation, LG office sources said.
Earlier, L-G has condemned an incident saying his head hung in shame over the "inhuman" crime. He also tweeted that all aspects of the case were being looked into.
According to the sources in Raj Niwas, the L-G took the stock of the developments in the unfortunate Kanjhawala incident in a meeting with the Police Commissioner at 11.00 in the morning. During the meeting, Saxena reiterated his direction to the Arora that every angle and aspect of the case is looked into and the strictest possible sections/provisions of IPC be invoked against the accused, who are already in custody.
“The LG, who is keeping a tab on the situation on a ‘Real Time Basis’, has also asked the authorities to keep him abreast of the autopsy report and its corroboration with the findings of the Police investigation regarding the incident,” they said.
Apart from this, the LG has instructed the Police Commissioner to strictly ensure that the accused are treated as per law, irrespective of their socio-economic standing or political affiliations, they said.
Taking the matter into cognizance, the L-G also asked Arora to ascertain whether there was any lapse on part of the Police and also directed that responsibility be fixed for any lapse or laxity, sources underlined.
The L-G has asked the officers in the morning to ascertain if anyone in the victim’s family could be provided with a Government Employment as job on compassionate ground, they stated.“The LG also requested to the political parties to not politicize this tragic incident and refrain from insensitive and opportunistic scavenging,” sources added.
Earlier in the morning, Lt Governor said he was shocked at the "monstrous insensitivity of the perpetrators." "My head hangs in shame over the inhuman crime in Kanjhawla-Sultanpuri today morning, and I am shocked at the monstrous insensitivity of the perpetrators.
Have been monitoring with the Commissioner of Police, Delhi and the accused have been apprehended. All aspects are being thoroughly looked into," Saxena tweeted.
The Lt Governor also mentioned in his tweet that every possible support for the family of the woman will be ensured. The LG further cautioned against opportunistic scavenging and urged people to work towards a more sensitive society. "Even as every possible support/help and beyond to the family of the victim will be ensured, I appeal to all to not resort to opportunistic scavenging,” he said.
