lieutenant-Governor Najeeb Jung took a metro ride on Friday and appreciated the initiatives taken by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) in ensuring a sustainable urban transport system in India.

Accompanied by Mangu Singh, MD of DMRC, Jung boarded the Metro at the Civil lines Metro station and travelled up to the Race Course Metro station, where he visited the ‘Crafts Map of India’ Gallery.

He appreciated the efforts taken by the DMRC to promote the Indian art and culture among its commuters. He then boarded the metro train for Patel Chowk and visited the Metro Museum there.

Also, he travelled to Rajiv Chowk Metro station and inspected the crowd management facilities of the station. He also expressed satisfaction at the way huge passenger rush is handled by DMRC at interchange stations during peak hours.

“The Delhi metro is a symbol of what Indian engineers can achieve. It’s an example for the ‘developed’ world in sheer efficiency and good administration. It is a symbol of modern India — its undaunting spirit and desire to progress,” he said.

The lG also visited the Delhi Metro headquarters at the Metro Bhawan and was briefed about the DMRC’s present progress and future plans by MD/DMRC.
