A massive protest by students and parents broke out at the Kirori Mal College on Thursday morning after the college refused to admit students under the sports and extracurricular activities (ECA) quota on the last day of admission. Students and parents even broke gates and marched up to the Vice Regal lodge to demand the Vice Chancellor’s intervention. But even as protest intensified, the Principal of the college did not turn up.
Being the last day of admissions at the Delhi University, several students who were eligible for admission under the sports quota, along with their parents came to the college seeking admission. However, they were turned down by the management on the pretext that the principal was not present. Following this, the students created a scene and were joined by student union Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP).
However, after the chaos, officials at the college said that admissions under the quota are likely to be conducted on Friday. “The university will be giving us guidelines of the admission on Friday after which we will continue with the admissions. It is likely that the admissions will now take place as per five per cent of the total seats in the university unlike the university rule of five per cent quota of seats per course,” said a source in the university.
