Family members of a 27-year-old woman, who died during treatment at lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan hospital on Saturday, vandalised the emergency ward of the hospital after hospital administration refused to hand them over the dead body without post-mortem. With the connivance of local leader of their community, they barged inside the emergency department of lNJP hospital and damaged all the hospital properties. Though four police personnel were injured in the incident, but still no case has been registered.
Police said that the woman Noor Jahan was brought to the hospital on February 27 from Badaun, Uttar Pradesh, for treatment for appendicitis. “On Saturday, her condition deteriorated and she died around 4 pm. Following this, the hospital authorities asked the family to allow them to conduct a post mortem since an MlC was already taken on the day she was brought to the hospital,” a senior police officer said.
Investigation revealed that the hospital administration also told them that the post mortem had to be conducted as procedure. However, the family insisted that the body be taken back without a post-mortem and suddenly went on a rampage. They later approached the Imam of their community who later called several people to gather at the hospital to pressurise the doctors. “Around 5 pm, around 250 people gathered at the premises of the hospital and started raising slogans against the hospital administration,” the officer added.
