The victims, residents of Noida, were coming from Agra when their car hit a stationary truck in Mathura. The victims sustained grievous injuries and were taken to nearby Kailash Hospital in Greater Noida where they were declared dead on arrival. This is the fourth major accident on expressway this week in which 11 people have lost their lives while over 50 have suffered injuries.

Akhilesh Shrivastav (48), who was driving the car, could not notice the vehicle and rammed into it. The impact of the accident was so high that most part of the speeding car were damaged and the victims, Akhilesh and Dakshika Shrivastav (22) thrown out of the vehicle. A PCR van reached the spot and the victims were taken to the hospital. The accident also led a traffic snarl on the stretch for more than one hour and the jam was removed both truck and car were taken away from the expressway.

“Both bodies have been sent for postmortem examination and which will be handed over to their family later. We have also sent a detailed report to Mathura Police in this regard as the accident happened in Mathura region. The concerned police station will decide about registering FIR of this accident,” said a senior police official of Greater Noida.

Yamuna Expressway, which connects Greater Noida to Agra, is witnessing series of accidents due to ill-preparedness of police and Jaypee Group, the private operator of the expressway. Earlier, the authorities had claimed to take appropriate measures to minimise accident cases but no effort have been made so far. Their promise to arrange proper light and to reduce speed of the vehicles on the carriageway is till to be materialised. The authorities have yet to ensure 24-hour patrolling of rescue vehicle and arrangement of anti- fog light.
