Kidnappers turn out to be relatives, traffic cops solve puzzle

With the timely intervention of the Delhi Traffic Police on Wednesday morning, Delhi Police averted a violent situation from spiraling out of control when fellow passengers of the DTC mistook violent relatives of a 6-year-old boy as his kidnappers.

A senior police officer said, “On Wednesday morning, at around 10.45am, we received a call that two suspicious looking men are taking a boy on the bus route going from Najafgarh Road towards Rajouri Garden”.

A team of Sub-Inspector Suresh, Assistant Sub-Inspector Rohtash, Constable Vikash and Constable Jitesh, deployed at the Vishal Chowk rushed to the spot and stopped the bus.

A group of 10 to 15 passengers had caught the two men and the child. The passengers informed the traffic staff personnel that they were suspicious about these two men as the passengers were exhibiting aggressive behaviour and the minor boy was constantly crying.

Handling the situation with patience, the traffic staff pacified the angry passengers and took the 6-year-old boy as well as the two men in the police custody at Rajouri Garden police station. However, the group of passengers swelled as about more than 150 people gathered outside the Rajouri garden police station.

On thorough investigation, police established that the suspicions of the passengers were false.

The identity of the 6-year-old boy was Tuktuk. His father Virender, a resident of  ludhiana in Punjab had brought the child for treatment in Delhi. He along with his brother-in-law Amarjeet were taking the child to AIIMS. Since the two men were carrying the boy in the absence of his mother, the passengers became curious.

Police said that the timely intervention and alertness of the traffic staff of the Rajouri circle present at the Vishal Chowk prevented the situation from taking an ugly turn.
