A 30-year-old employee of a private insurance company abducted by a two-member gang from Subhash Chowk in the city, was rescued by the Gurugram Police with the help of their Rajasthan counterparts. The victim was rescued from Pali district of Rajasthan on Tuesday.

The police managed to trace the victim on the basis of money transaction messages received on his mobile. The accused managed to force the victim to withdraw Rs 1 lakh at gunpoint.

According to the police, the victim, Samarth Kohli, a resident of Tilak Nagar in Delhi, works with AIG insurance company located at Sector-48 in Gurugarm.

On Monday night around 10.00 pm, he was returning home in his Honda Civic car. When he reached Subhash Chowk, he came out of his car as the car headlights were not functioning. At that time two persons held him at gunpoint, dragged him to the rear seat of the car and drove towards Jaipur.

En route to Jaipur, repeated transactions of Rs 20,000 were made from different ATMs in Sector-14 and Sector-49 in Gurugram. Thereafter, Rs 3,000 was withdrawn from a petrol pump nearby Bawal (Rewari). Thereafter money was withdrawn from ATMs in Jaipur and Ajmer.

The police received messages about money withdrawn from different locations on another phone which the victim had left at home. Tracing his phone locations, the Gurugram Police informed the Ajmer Police.

The Ajmer Police in turn informed Pali Police about the location of the abductors they were getting from the Gurugram Police.

“As soon as we received the information from the Ajmer Police the Pali Police went on a high alert. Due to police pressure, the culprits left the vehicle and fled from the spot leaving the victim a few meters away from the police barricade,” Deepak Bhargava, Superintendent of Police, Pali,  said.

Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) 39, CIA (east) and a team from Sadar Police Station Gurugram reached Pali in the afternoon to question Kohli about the incident.

“The accused took him to Rewari, Jaipur, Ajmer and they were finally pinned down at Raipur in Pali district of Rajasthan based on the ATM messages location,” DCP (Crime), Sumit Kuhar, said.

Police said that both the accused have criminal records and have been identified. One of them is from Haryana and another is from neighbouring Alwar (Rajasthan). The police said that they were informed about the abduction by Kohli’s family members on Tuesday morning at 6.00 am.

“The police have registered a case of abduction under relevant sections of the IPC at the Sadar Police Station and will nab the accused persons soon,” ACP Sadar, Anil Yadav, said.
