Six years of hardship ended for an Assamese girl when she was finally traced by the Delhi Police after she was allegedly kidnapped from Assam in 2012.

The Delhi Police, in a joint operation with the NGO Bachpan Bachao Andolan, claimed to have rescued the girl after she was abducted and trafficked to Delhi where she was found to be working as a domestic help.

The southeast police district rescued the 22-year-old woman, who was kidnapped when she was a 16-year-old girl. Chinmoy Biswal, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southeast) said, “We have managed to trace a girl, who was kidnapped six years ago. She was kidnapped when she was just 16 years old.”

On January 2014, a woman, resident of Assam, approached the Bachpan Bachao Andolan NGO in Delhi that in 2012, her 16-year-old daughter was kidnapped by one Deepak  and sold the girl to one Jacob Deep who was running a placement agency in the name of AA House Keeping and Office Staff providers at Taimur Nagar in Delhi. Her husband also came to Delhi in search for their daughter but he was also detained by the alleged traffickers at their office in Taimur Nagar.  Based on a tip off, a joint team of the New Friends’ Colony and the local NGO raided the Taimur Nagar area. The cops found the father of the girl was held hostage but the girl was not found there. Police arrested Jacob Deep.

To trace the girl, police set up a Special Investigation Team and the Police Commissioner declared a Rs 50,000 prize. Delhi police teams carried out raids across ludhiana, Coimbatore, Assam and Delhi but could not find the girl.  A few weeks later, when the cops spoke to the locals in Assam, they found that the girl has been deployed as a domestic help in Shalimar Bagh.

“Our team conducted a raid at BQ Block of Shalimar Bagh and the girl was rescued. During questioning, the girl disclosed that she was lured by Deepak to come to Delhi for a vacation and kidnapped. However, when she reached Delhi, her dream was shattered and she was sent to ludhiana where she was made to work as a domestic help. Made to stay in ludhiana for two years, she was sent back to Delhi,” said Biswal.

The DCP said, “In December 2013, she was made to meet her father at Taimur Nagar. When she expressed her desire to go back home, the accused, Deepak and Jacob refused to give her the money she had earned. Instead, he blackmailed her, saying that if the father daughter wants to return home, she will have to work in a house in Udai Park for 20 days, to which she agreed. Even after 30 days, when Deepak did not turn up to take her back from Udai Park, she ran away from there, meanwhile her father was being kept captive by Deepak and Jacob Deep in their office in Tamoor Nagar,”

In the meantime, mother of victim somehow approached NGO Bachpan Bachao Andolan, and a raid was conducted at their office in Tamoor Nagar and Mangle Munda was rescued. The girl revealed that at Udai Park, she came in contact with another domestic help and got a job at a house in Patel Nagar. In Patel Nagar she worked for a year and after frequent job changes, she settled down in Shalimar Bagh, where she was working as a part time domestic help for last two years.

“We took her to the Magistrate where she expressed her desire to live on her own.” Police added that they are making efforts to arrest the main accused, Deepak.
