Kerry's boat comment should put Capital to shame: loP

Published on:

leader of Opposition Vijender Gupta on Wednesday said that it is the Capital's shame that the visiting US Foreign Secretary was compelled to wonder if Delhiites travel by boats to reach their destinations. Gupta said that the Delhi Government is solely responsible for such mocking comments by foreign dignitaries in context of Wednesday's unprecedented flooding and traffic jams at majority of roads and colonies.

He added that the Kejriwal Government was fighting tooth and nail for the "most efficient PWD Secretary" till Tuesday who also happened to be the PWD engineer-in- chief. He alongwith the Government had turned out to be a disastrous failure, Gupta added.

The loP said it was worrying that the PWD Minsiter Satyender Jain and AAP leaders are passing the buck to other agencies without any remorse in place of doing honest introspection to prevent recurrence of such damaging situation in future. The main cause of flooding is non-removal of silt from nallahas by the PWD. "Before the onset of monsoon, the Government made tall claims about monsoon preparedness. But all these claims proved to be hollow today. Nearly three crore people residing in and around Delhi suffer due to corruption, inefficiency and apathy of the PWD Department under Jain's leadership," Gupta added.
