The Delhi Government on Thursday issued directions for speedy implementation of its ambitious ‘kerosene-free Delhi’ scheme, under which over 3.5 lakh BPl and poor families will get free lPG cylinders and gas stoves.
Food Supplies Minister Haroon Yusuf said he has told officials to provide “top most” priority to this. Seemingly unhappy over slow work, he said 1.5 lakh families have already been provided lPG connections and he wants the department to cover all the beneficiaries within next couple of months.
“The Indian Oil Corporation ltd, Bharat Petroleum Corporation ltd and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation ltd have been working in tandem,” he said. The Delhi Government had launched the scheme in August last year to make Delhi kerosene-free by giving free gas stoves, cylinders and regulators to all families covered under BPl, Antyodaya Anna Yojna and Jhuggi Ration Card.
An amount of Rs 115 crore was set aside to implement the scheme. Yusuf said so far 12 assembly segments have been made fully kerosene-free. The supply of kerosene has been stopped to these assembly segments from this month. 40 more Assembly segments will be made fully kerosene free by next month.
