Kejriwal takes corruption 'crusade' to HoDs

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday held a meeting with the head of all departments (HoDs) and told them that Government would not tolerate corruption at any cost.

Also, the Government said HoDs would be held responsible if department is found involved in corruption and the charges are proved.  At a Head of Departments (HoDs) and Secretaries meeting, Kejriwal reiterated his resolve to remove and fight corruption told officials that  the Delhi Government has decided to set up a wing to keep an eye on wrongdoers in its departments.

Realising that its Anti Corruption Branch (ACB) has lost its efficacy in fighting corruption due to tussle with the Centre, the Delhi Government has decided to set up a wing to keep an eye on wrongdoers in its departments.

“We have made an information network which will work for vigilance department. This (unit) will have officers from vigilance department which we need to strengthen,” Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said after the meeting.

“The Anti Corruption Branch is not fighting corruption so a network of vigilance officers will be made. They will check corruption in the Government,” he said.

“The Chief Minister plainly told all  heads of all the departments that the Government won’t tolerate corruption at any cost be it a minister, MlA of junior officer,” said Sisodia  “He also told them to ensure that here is no wrongdoing in their repressive department and assured that the government would make all the resources available to stop corruption,” he added.

All HODs have also been asked by the Chief Minister to ensure that there was zero corruption in their departments and it was their responsibility that the works were done in their departments with full honesty, he said.

Sisodia also said the CM also asked the officers that if they need resources and there was need to change the system, government would provide all such things, but corruption would not be tolerated.

The move comes three days after the CM sacked Asim Ahmed Khan from his Cabinet on alleged graft charges.

Reacting to Chief Minister’s order, officials said Kejriwal is saying to protect bureaucrats who prevent corruption but he is also saying that HoDs will be held responsible for any corrupt practices and this has sent conflicting signals.
