Contrary to the stand of the Delhi CM designate Arvind Kejriwal, newly elected MlAs of his party on Tuesday hurried the Secretariat to get a vehicle sticker of Delhi legislative Assembly, one of the symbol for power and glory within political circles.

Sources said that seven AAP party MlAs took stickers before even being sworn in. Besides these seven AAP MlAs, Congress leader Devender Yadav and Independent Ramvir Shokeen also took MlA stickers. An MlA is entitled to two such stickers for his personal vehicle in five years. Earlier, there was a norm to issue five such stickers to each elected members of the Assembly for their personal vehicles.

MlA stickers are issued to those MlAs after their written submission or undertaking that it would be for personal use only. Not only this the vehicle bearing MlA stickers gets many privileges and is given a free run on city roads and its entry to various city tolls is free, an Assembly official added.

Criticising AAP leaders, former Congress MlA Mukesh Sharma said contrary to Arvind Kejriwal’s stand that his party MlAs will not be caught in the trappings of power, several MlAs took the Assembly stickers for the members before being sworn in. “One may understand their hurry to use MlAs stickers on their vehicles as they are power hungry,” he said.
