A day after a man flung liquid at AAP convener and former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal during his padyatra in South Delhi’s Malviya Nagar area, the Delhi Police on Sunday conducted a joint interrogation of the accused with other security agencies.
According to officials on Sunday, a case was registered against the accused, who was identified as Ashok Kumar Jha and is serving as a bus marshall in Khanpur Depot. “Proceedings under section 126 and 169 of Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) has been initiated against Ashok Kumar Jha to bound down him from repeating such offence in future,” a senior police official said, adding that on the instance of Ashok, glass and bottle of 500 ML, filled with one third of water has been seized.
He added that further inquiry is under progress in the matter. On Saturday, chaos broke out in Kejriwal’s padyatra after he was thrown the liquid while the party alleged it was an attempt to “burn” the former Chief Minister since the man had thrown “spirit”, while the police claimed the accused had thrown “water”.
The incident took place when Kejriwal, along with Greater Kailash MLA and Delhi minister Saurabh Bharadwaj, was walking in a narrow lane, greeting people. Police personnel had placed ropes on both sides of the two leaders, and security personnel were walking alongside them. The AAP chief has Z+ security.
