The Chief Minister of Delhi on Tuesday announced Rs 10 lakh ex-gratia compensation for the Kasturba Nagar rape victim.
Revenue and Law Minister Kailash Gahlot along with Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chief Swati Maliwal met the Kasturba Nagar rape victim who informed him that she was abducted from her home and gang-raped by three men who are involved in illicit trade of liquor and drugs locally.
Shockingly, as reported earlier, while the three men were gang-raping her, the women present therein were instigating them further. She further said that they beat her up brutally, shaved her head, blackened her face and made her walk around the neighbourhood with a garland of slippers and shoes. A video of the unfortunate incident was also received by the Commission which clearly showed the sad plight of the victim.
Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal tweeted “I have ordered Rs 10 lakh assistance to help this daughter. The Delhi Government will do everything possible to get justice for this daughter. We are hiring a good lawyer for her. We will also fast-track this matter so that the daughter can get justice as soon as possible."
DCW chief Maliwal had earlier issued a notice to Delhi Police seeking immediate arrest of all the culprits, both men and women. She had also recommended that the girl and her family be shifted to a safe house and be provided protection.
Through the notice, the DCW has also sought details of any previous complaints against the accused persons especially regrarding their involvement in illegal liquor and drug trade. Furthermore, Delhi Police has been asked to furnish the steps taken by them to provide the girl necessary security.
The Delhi Police has been given 72 hours to submit a detailed action taken report to the Commission in the matter alongwith the CCTV footage of the whole incident.
Later Revenue Minister, Gahlot tweeted, “On the instruction of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, I along with Swati Maliwal met today the Kasturba Nagar rape victim. The Delhi Government will provide assistance of Rs 10 lakh to the victim. We will send the case to the fast-track court and engage the best lawyer so that the culprits get strict punishment soon.”
In a statement, Swati Maliwal said, “Delhi Government has ordered Rs 10 lakh compensation for the girl which will help her. We have also helped her file an application in the court for interim compensation and our team is there with her 24x7. Further, we will also rehabilitate the girl. Strongest punishment must be given to the culprits so that no one will dare to commit such a crime again.”
