Kejriwal, Sisodia pay surprise visit to under-construction campus of IP University

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia made a surprise visit to the under-construction East Delhi campus of the IP University on Thursday.

The East Delhi Campus of the IP University is being built on 18-acre land. The campus will have two colleges, one for design and one for architecture. It will cater to 2,000 students in every batch. The state of the art building would be ready in a few months and it will start its educational operation from the next academic session (2020). The campus will have hostels for both boys and girls.

It is worth mentioning that the new campus was pushed by the AAP government during its first tenure of 49-days in 2013-14. However, the land was not allotted to the government during its tenure then.

Later, during the Lieutenant Governor rule in Delhi, the campus was inaugurated without the land being transferred by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA). When the AAP government came back to power in 2015, it again started pushing for the new campus. The Education Minister, Manish Sisodia, again pushed for the project and ultimately the government bought the land from the DDA for the new campus and after some delay the work on the campus started.
