Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday said Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s announcement to waive water arrears was a ‘lollipop’ for Delhiites ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections and alleged that half of the residents in the city were deprived of piped water supply.
Delhi BJP president Manoj Tiwari said that Kejriwal is playing drama in view of upcoming Assembly elections. “This Government also claimed to revive water bodies to recharge ground water but this scheme has failed. Out of the water produced in the eight water treatment plants of Delhi, 50 per cent is lost due to leakage,” he said.
Kejriwal Government should take care of leakage of water to prevent the wastage, he said, adding that Delhi Jal Board is incurring loss and Chief Minister is responsible for it.
Tiwari also said that there has been a chaos like situation in DJB during the last four and half years. He also alleged the DJB served hefty bills to harass the people of Delhi and when the people refused to pay the bills. “It is quite clear that this announcement is just like the other announcements of freebies as Assembly election is approaching,” he said.
