Congress candidate from New Delhi Assembly seat, Prof Kiran Walia on Thursday alleged that Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convener Arvind Kejriwal has given false information about his cases in the affidavit submitted before the Election Commission (EC). Walia has filed a complaint in this regard. The same was rejected. Walia is now planning to appeal in High Court against the same.
Talking to The Pioneer, Walia said that an issue was brought to her notice, according to which Kejriwal has not mentioned an FIR lodged against him in his affidavit as part of his nomination papers. “This is concealment of facts and serious information. This FIR is under Section 153 of IPC, which is a serious offence,” said Walia.
“The second issue that we had was that he states that he lives in the BK Dutt Colony whereas he is a resident of Ghaziabad. If he is indeed a resident of the BK Dutt Colony, then it is illegal because that is a Government colony and sub-letting is not allowed. If he lives in the private sector of the area, then he must show the rent agreement for the same,” she added. Although rejected by the Election Commission, Walia stated her party would appeal in High Court and plead Kejriwal’s nomination for the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections is cancelled.
“His nomination has yet not been cancelled and thus we will appeal in the High Court. We will also protest against this,” she said. Interestingly, ECI cannot cancel nomination paper of candidate on the ground he/she furnished false information or concealed facts. Only court can decide on this issue whether nomination of a candidate should be cancelled or not.
Earlier this week, the Congress had made a formal complaint against Kejriwal with the Election Committee over the AAP chief’s ‘bribe’ remarks, where the former Delhi Chief Minister urged the citizens of the city to accept money offered by the grand old party and the BJP, but to vote for him.
