Even as the Appellate Tribunal of Electricity ordered against the Delhi Government’s suggestion to suspend the licences of the power discoms, the Arvind Kejriwal-led Government is still on with its “witch hunt” for alternate players in the power sector. While Kejriwal so far has met two interested distribution companies, his parameters for selecting them are ‘straight and simple’.
According to Delhi’s Urban Development Minister, an interested party has to have three strong points. “Firstly, the company should be honest and responsible. Secondly, it has to be financially strong so that it can survive even in dire situations like the BSES is in right now. Thirdly and most importantly, it has to present to us an innovative yet viable modality to offer power to consumers at a cheaper rate,” said Sisodia. According to sources, Kejriwal on Wednesday met two prospective companies namely RPG group owned Calcutta Electric Supply Corporation (CESC) and Torrent group which supplies power to Agra, Surat and Riwari.
