Speaking on regularising jobs for over two lakh Government employees and ensuring safety for sanitation workers, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convener Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday launched its Delhi unit for people from Scheduled Castes and Tribes (SC/ST) amid lots of fervour as people came out in large number.

While Kejriwal reflected upon the lack of work the Congress has done in the past 15 years in the Capital, he said that there was an urgent need for change and people had to trust him for that. He added that last year the party won nine of the 12 reserved seats in the Assembly, but now the party's aim was to win all 12 seats.

Kejriwal said justice, respect and equal rights for the weaker sections of the society are crucial for development of all. He said, “Swachchh Bharat Abhiyan can only succeed if it is taken beyond symbolism and that is possible only by giving respect and importance to the sanitation workers. It is a matter of shame that even after 67 years of independence, sanitation workers are working in inhuman conditions.” Kejriwal also gave the example of workers entering sewers to clean them despite presence of poisonous gases there, which has claimed many lives and leads to severe skin diseases.

Meanwhile, with the launch of AAP's Delhi SC/ST unit, several prominent Dalit personalities joined the party on Wednesday. Among those who joined the party, one of the people was Dr Kaushal Panwar, who is an assistant professor of Sanskrit in Delhi University. Her life story was featured in Aamir Khan's popular TV serial Satyamev Jayate in the episode on untouchability and caste discrimination.

A close of former Prime Minister late VP Singh, Chaudhary Itwari lal, who was associated with his Jan Chetna Manch also joined the AAP. BSP Delhi State unit treasurer Ho Ram and MCD Safai Karamchari Union leader Ashok Kumar Anjana, also joined the party.AAP MlA from Kondli, Manoj Kumar will head the party's SC/ST wing of Delhi.
