Following the direction of Ministry of Urban Development, former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has finally vacated his Tilak lane Government accommodation and shifted back to his old flat at Kaushambi in Ghaziabad. The flat in Girnar Apartment has been allotted to his wife Sunita, who is senior Indian Revenue Service Officer. She had surrendered the accommodation early this year when Kejriwal became the Chief Minister and shifted to Tilak Marg residence.
Taking a tough stand against the continuous occupation by the AAP convener, the Ministry of Urban Development had fixed deadline and directed Delhi Government’s PWD to get the house vacated before July 30. Kejriwal, who resigned as Chief Minister of Delhi on February 14, was allotted the three-bedroom C-II/23 flat at Tilak lane in lutyens Zone by the Ministry of Urban Development in January as Delhi Government had made a request for a suitable accommodation in Central Delhi for its Chief Minister. His Government lasted for just 49 days and he continued to live in the same house even after that it led to a lot of criticism.
Even after resigning as the Chief Minister, he was residing in the Government accommodation in Tilak lane for some five months before moving to Kaushambi. Interestingly, it was his Kaushambi flat from where Kejriwal chalked out the strategy for the 2013 Assembly polls and scripted a spectacular win and went on to form the Government.
Kejriwal’s accommodation has always been a controversial issue. After he resigned as the Delhi Chief Minister he decided not to vacate the flat as his daughter was appearing for her Board exams. He had informed the authorities that he would be staying there till July end and until then pay rent at a market price.
