Delhi Police has arrested two absconding accused for allegedly passing racial comments and thrashing Nido Tania, a native of Arunachal Pradesh to death. Arrested miscreants are Pawan and Sunder and they were apprehended from Hisar on Tuesday afternoon.

Meanwhile, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday faced the ire of the North-Eastern students protesting against the murder of a student from the region and son of an Arunachal Pradesh MlA Nido Tania. Kejriwal, who reached at Jantar Mantar in the evening on Tuesday, to express solidarity with the fraternity had to apologise for joining the protest on the fourth day. Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi had joined the protesters on Monday. Tania’s cousin sister Runu on behalf of his father read out a message at the protest demanding Capital punishment for the accused and a stringent anti-racial law. A delegation of students also met the PM and President who condoled his death and assured that the case is being closely monitored.

Assuring full support and fair investigation into the matter, Kejriwal said that even before anyone approached him, he had already ordered a magisterial enquiry in the case. “I saw the news on television. We ordered an independent magisterial enquiry within an hour. We did not order it under any pressure. Delhi Police is an interested party and also one of the accused. Delhi Police cannot conduct independent investigation. The enquiry would be completed within 3-4 weeks,” added Kejriwal.

He also promised to set up a committee for the North-Eastern people living in the Capital to look into their grievances and issues. The Chief Minister also said the panel will seek suggestions and also implement them. Education Minister Manish Sisodia who was also present at the venue along with Kejriwal also announced that from the next academic session a detailed chapter on the history of North-Eastern people and their contribution in the history of the country will be added in the text book for all Delhi schools. “The Department of Education in Delhi will teach people how to respect an Indian,” said

the Minister. The protest seeking justice for the death case of Tania continued on its fourth day with students and activists from the Capital joining in and insisting on all their demands to be fulfilled. The protesters refused to call off the protest and are planning to march from Jantar Mantar to the Parliament house on Thursday. JNU professors and non-NE students of the DU also joined in the protest and demanded speedy action.
