Keeping its head when groupthink takes over

Delhi Dialogue Commission (DDC), an advisory body to the AAP Government, has decided to form 20 task groups on various issues like women security, water, electricity, pollution, unauthorised colonies and traffic, among others.

It has also been decided that headquarters of DDC will be at 1 Satya Sadan in Chanakyapuri. This is a

bungalow for residential purposes and former Delhi Finance Minister Prof Jagdish Mukhi used to stay here during his tenure as leader of Opposition in Delhi Assembly.

A nine-member DDC, headed by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, was on February 27 set up to implement the 70 promises made by the Aam Aadmi Party in its election manifesto.

DDC, on Monday, held its first meeting chaired by Kejriwal at Delhi Secretariat to discuss different issues. Ashish Khetan, who is the vice

chairman of DDC, said that each task group to be headed by convener will have various members who will provide advice on ways to implement Government’s vision about

the city. MlAs and experts from different fields can also become the members of these task groups.

“Each task group will work on their respective subject

and offer suggestions to

DDC. These suggestions will later be implemented by the Government,” Khetan told a Press conference. He also said that task groups will be formed on these subjects — women security, WiFi, CCTVs, clean drinking water, electricity, good governance, cleaning of Yamuna, clean Delhi, rural areas, trade and traders, pollution, traffic, unauthorised colonies, tax reforms, etc.

“Task groups will also study best ideas already taken place in other States and foreign countries. Convener can also hire experts to study their respective subject and these experts will be given remuneration by the Government,” he said.

Besides CM and Khetan, other members of the DDC are Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, Chief Secretary, Finance Secretary, Secretary to the Chief Minister, two nominated members and a member Secretary.

In its manifesto, AAP had made 70 promises ranging from building two lakh public toilets to setting up 20 new colleges to adding 30,000 more beds in Delhi hospitals.  “Members of the groups will also establish dialogues with people and find out solutions to particular

problems,” he said.

“The only way to transform a city is to be in a constant dialogue with the city and the people who mould it. Now the time has come to create a mechanism through which that action plan can be implemented,” Khetan had said after the formation of DDC.

He said the commission will come up with appropriate solutions to a range of civic issues by studying good practices, policies and plans from across the country and overseas. Khetan said the commission can be contacted on the e-mail address ddc.delhi@gov.in.
