With the ongoing unrest in Kashmir refusing to die down, a Delhi University student, who was visiting home for Eid holidays, was allegedly killed in police firing on Tuesday.
The deceased student has been identified as Amir Nazir lattoo who has done B. Com from Zakir Husain Evening College this year. He is a resident of the hometown of Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, Bijbehara in South Kashmir. He visited home for Eid holidays and was going to join Aligarh Muslim University on July 19 for M.Com.
According to his neighbour and friend Peerzada Arshad, Amir was sitting with few other companions outside his house when the police, who were chasing some protesters, opened fire on them from across the river on Monday afternoon. Hit by a bullet in his chest, Amir succumbed to the injuries in a Government hospital in Srinagar on Tuesday.
“He was sitting with few other people on the road outside his house in Bijbehara around 2 pm and there was a sudden pandemonium across the river... while police were chasing some protesters, they opened fire. Amir and another youth were hit with bullets... We took them to hospital but he passed away on Tuesday,” Arsad told The Pioneer.
Amir’s friends in Delhi expressed immense shock and grief on his tragic demise.
While his last Facebook post was about the killing on Hizbul Mujahiddin commander Burhan Wani, Amir appeared to be regular on Facebook who loved to pose for pictures and believed in love and Sufism, said one of his friends. Amir belonged to a poor family. His father was making two ends meet by doing embroidery on Pherans (a Kashmir dress), he added.
