The sensational robbery on Tuesday morning might have left Delhi Police shocked but identity of one of the victims has reinforced their doubt of it being the unaccounted money coming through hawala transactions. Rajesh Kalra, the business partner of Rahul Ahuja, is the same person who has been chargesheeted by Delhi Police in the infamous matchfixing scandal involving former South African cricketer Hansie Cronje. Police said Kalra was a bookie who was named in the chargesheet along with T-Series owner Kishen Kumar in the matchfixing scandal that had rocked the cricketing world 13 years ago.
Police said Rajesh Kalra, a conduit, had got the cell phone used by Cronje to stay in touch with the bookies and Sunil Dara alias Bittu in column no. 11 of their chargesheet. “Police have received the Central Forensic Science laboratory (CFSl) report that has confirmed in its voice sample report that the voices in the conversations match and the recorded transcripts as the crucial evidence in our case.
The taped conversation had voices of Kalra, Dara and Kishen, too. They were constantly talking with the bookies Chawla and Khattar, while the bookie Chawla was talking with Cronje,” the officer added.
Investigations have revealed that heist was meticulously planned by the robbers and it appears that the gang had planned the robbery well in advance. Kalra was not present in the car at the time of incident. “There is a strong possibility that the gang members conducted reconnaissance to identify the routes from congested Moolchand flyover. They also arranged a car stolen by their gang from a marriage function in West Delhi’s Mundka on January 21 to evade detection,” police source added.
Meanwhile, police sources said that on January 22, the four of the robbers allegedly abducted a small-time businessman from Mundka area in their stolen Hyundai Verna car and after around 30 minutes, they dumped him in Nangloi area. They robbed around Rs1.30 lakh from him and escaped from the spot after dumping him. “After registering the case, police started their investigation and currently showing photos of all the notorious robbers to the victims. They have also called the CFSl of CBI to lift finger prints and other evidence from the stolen cars of the accused persons,” sources added. Investigators are now scanning the call detail records (CDR) of the all the persons who were present in the car and also checking their background.
