lieutenant-Governor of Delhi Najeeb Jung has ideated a ‘larger role’ for the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) while finding out the shortcomings in the functioning of the housing agency.

Jung, who is the administrative head of the DDA, said that a study is being conducted in this regard which will contribute in making the authority more efficient and accountable. Meanwhile, in order to ensure a wider reach to people, Jung formally launched the website of his office on Wednesday.

“There were high expectations from the DDA when it was formed some 60 years back. It was anticipated that the development authority would resolve several land issues. However, over time, some shortcomings in the organisations’ functioning have crept in. While every citizen is entitled to move freely across the country, it is the Government’s duty to provide facilities to all. Now the time has come to take a re-look,” said Jung.

The study will find the loopholes in the organisational structure of the DDA and will also give recommendations on its housing policies, sources informed. Besides, it would also examine whether the DDA should be transformed into a planning body so as to meet various challenges, including shortage of housing in the city.

Meanwhile, launching the newly refurbished website of lieutenant-Governor’s Secretariat on Wednesday, Jung said that the aim for this step was to reach out to people and disseminate more information to them, thereby, making the system transparent. “The new website has the provision, whereby, people can seek an online appointment with officers at the l-G office by logging on and registering on the website. It will also allow people to get in touch with the nodal officers of various instruments of the Government easily so as to get redressal to their queries in an effective manner,” Jung said.

Moreover, the website has integrated all the other Government websites like the DDA, New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC), Delhi Police, Delhi Government, MCD and so on. People can visit the lG office website by logging on to www.lgdelhi.in, www.rajniwasdelhi.in or www.lgsecretariatdelhi.in.
