Journalists on Tuesday demonstrated to protest the brutal killing of Pradyuman Thakur, a student of Ryan International School Gurugram and demanded that the Government frame 'Pradyuman Guidelines' on the lines of Vishakha guidelines for working women to ensure safety and security of schoolchildren.

Journalists gathered under the banner of Maithil Journalists Group at Press Club of India and held a protest marched to Shastri Bhawan that houses the HRD Ministry. Journalists will meet HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar on Wednesday and present their charter of demands for formation of 'Pradyuman Guidelines'. They have also demanded a CBI enquiry into the entire incident.

According to Maithil Journalists Group General Secretary Santosh Thakur, the brutal murder of Pradyuman has once again proven that the schools are not at all serious about safety and security of children. If we want that such horrific incidents are not repeated, the Government should immediately come out with stringent guidelines that every school should follow thereby ensuring that each and every student going to any school is fully safe and secure. We also demand a regulatory authority to monitor functioning of schools. We also demand an immediate safety audit of all schools. If we are able to achieve it, it will be our true tribute to Pradhyuman.

Maithil Journalists Association other offices bearers, including Nadeem and Ajay Jha, said entire school administration should be held accountable for any incident related to safety of students studying in their institutions. Entire school premises should be covered with CCTV, police verification of all staff members should be mandatory.
