Join centralised admission process, minority colleges told

Based on the order of the High Court directing Delhi University to have a centralised sports trial and fitness tests, the university has insisted the two minority colleges — St Stephen’s College and Jesus and Mary College — to join the centralised process and avoid conducting independent trials and fitness tests, failing which the university has warned that it would cancel the admission of such candidates.

The issue was discussed at an urgent meeting of the Admission Committee on Thursday.

“In the meeting, it was noted that colleges have not joined the centralised ECA and Sports category admissions. Thus, we decided that the Dean Students’ Welfare would send a written communication to these colleges asking them to abide by the court’s direction, failing which the university would not give the enrollment numbers to the candidates and ultimately cancel their admission,” DU Admission Committee member, Nachiketa Singh told The Pioneer.

Singh said the colleges “cannot go” ahead with independent trials and fitness tests. “The university’s centralised trials and fitness tests would have to be considered by the minority college as the decision is of the court,” he added.

Recently, the minority colleges joined the centralised admission process after the university agreed to their demand of having a “parallel” registration process.

“The student will have to first register on the DU website, take the registration number and then go to the website of these colleges and fill their form as well. They can proceed only after they have acquired the registration number from the DU form first…The principals were very adamant on not giving up the separate registration but the university was of the opinion that while the college maintains their minority status, the students are felicitated with degree of Delhi University thus it is mandatory for them to register through the university,” said Nachiketa who is also Assistant Professor at the SGTB Khalsa college.
