One person was killed and another injured when the moped they were riding was allegedly hit by a speeding car  from behind near Aurobindo Marg in New Delhi on Saturday night.

The two friends, both horse jockeys, were on their way to Nizamuddin to have dinner when they met with the accident, said a senior police officer.

While Harkesh Kumar (25), who was riding pillion was killed on the spot, Shakir Ahmed (40) was injured and is currently undergoing treatment at RMl Hospital, he said.

“Both of them were wearing helmets and no traces of alcohol were found in their blood samples. It seems that the vehicle that hit their bike was being driven in high speed.

“The impact was such that the bike flew in the air and both of them landed on the road. Harkesh’s head hit the divider and he died on the spot while Shakir sustained severe injuries,” the officer said.

There were police barricades on the road but the overspeeding car, which hit the moped, was uncontrollable and even the constables present there could not note down its number, he said.

A case has been registered at Tughlaq Road police station and investigation is underway, police said.
