Miffed over deployment of more than usual security outside the various schools of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) on Monday, JNU Student’s Union office bearers protested in the form of chalk paintings on floor depicting Vice-Chancellor in half-khaki knickers and carrying a trident.
“We have even planned to present him with a full Khaki pant (RSS uniform) in coming days,” said Simone Zoya Khan, Vice-President JNUSU.
“The JNUSU has stooped to a new low, disrespecting our Vice-Chancellor in such a manner is actually disrespecting entire academic community,” said a JNU research student. “Differences do exist and should exist but such things are really pointing that there is more to it than just student movement, they are backed by those who are against the government at centre” he said.
The JNUSU which is at loggerheads with the administration on the issue of mandatory attendance allegedly feared that presence of tight security at the entry and exit of various schools may adversely affect their strike as they may fail to pressurize students to join them. According to the administration, in past during such events the JNUSU has forcefully stopped the entry and exit of students and faculties to their respective classrooms and school buildings.
The administration also deployed some guard in civil dress and instructed them for videography if unruly situation arose.
