JNU's 'Yogi' says no harm in consensual sex

Published on:

last year, when one of the BJP's MlA from Rajasthan alleged that over three thousand used condoms are found daily in Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), the national party had to face much embarrassment. However, Raghavendra Mishra, one of the staunch right wing supporter, better known as 'JNU's Yogi', and who takes pride in donning himself in saffron attire said that “those who are engaged in sexual relationship in JNU by their own will are not at all immoral in character”.

He said that the political leaders who give such statements about JNU are uneducated and have no knowledge or idea about what our ancient texts and scriptures say on this issue. “Had they studied Rig Veda they would have known that Kama is not a sin. However, Kama is different from sex,” said Mishra.  “Sex is a natural urge and there is no harm in engaging in sexual intercourse with your partner if  both partners do it willingly,” he said.

Mishra is a student of  MPhil, at JNU's Special Centre for Sanskrit Studies, who presented his dissertation on “Philosophical and cultural dimension of Kama-Purushartha” on Monday.

He said that he has referred to more than 80 ancient texts including the famous Vatsyayana Kamasutra before giving 'tripartite' theory of  Kama. “In the Indian philosophy Kama is Brahma himself,” said Mishra. However, his supervisor Dr RK Mishra could not be reached for his comments.
