JNU students' representatives fail to meet V-C

The Jawaharlal Nehru University Student’s Union (JNUSU) representatives who went on to submit a memorandum against the JNU’s mandatory attendance policy to their Vice-Chancellor have to return disappointed without meeting him. About 20-25 students led by JNUSU reached the administrative block to submit memorandum that has allegedly been signed by more than 2000 students, but were stopped by the security from entering the block.

According to a recent circular, student’s attendance is mandatory in JNU from the next semester starting January 2018. However, JNUSU is vehemently opposing this decision calling it ‘irrational’, ‘arbitrary’ and ‘imposed’.  Though, the decision is claim to have been taken in the Academic Council meeting by the administration.

After much insistence by JNUSU, the meeting has been fixed for Monday i.e. January 8, 2018 . “We will raise question about the illegal circular and arbitrary rules which are being framed on daily basis with the fresh one relating to minimum marks in M.Phil/Ph.D. interviews,” said Simone Zoya Khan, Vice-President JNUSU.
