A research scholar at the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) who had alleged that she was raped by a fellow student, had on earlier occasions given a statement to the police that she neither wanted an investigation nor was she assaulted by him. The contradiction in her statements had left the cops in a tizzy. Delhi Police has lodged an FIR under Section 376 of the IPC at Vasant Kunj North police station and are investigating.
According to the police, the woman had first visited a city hospital on October 12, 2014 for a medical check-up and the police officers were also informed about the same. However, when the police asked the girl if there was any issue, she told the police officers that she did not want any investigation and in a written statement to the police she told that neither she was assaulted by the accused nor she wanted to register a case. Two days later she reached the hospital again and the same procedure was repeated where she for the second time in a written statement denied assault and refused investigation.
However, on November 11 she filed another complaint with Vasant Kunj North police station and claimed that the accused man identified as Sujith Kumar had used her for ‘sexual pleasures’, he had forced himself on her without her consent and this had also disturbed her mental state.
“I had earlier agreed to not file a case as he promised he will marry me and his mother had said she would get both of us settled as we were in love. We were living like husband and wife. I was in a relationship with him since March 2012. I later was informed that he was getting married to a girl in Bihar,” she said said her FIR. She further mentioned that she got to know that he was cheating on her and she now wanted to ‘punish’ him. The girl alleged that he publicly slapped her, tried to kill her, abused her and also called her characterless.
