In a shocking incident, a man was arrested for throwing acid on a 30-year-old widow on Wednesday in Ballukheda village in Dankaur, Greater Noida, police said.
The victim with serious burns on her face was first rushed to a private hospital and then referred to a district hospital in Noida. She received burns on her face, head and back, said doctors, adding that the victim is out of danger.
According to police, the victim and the accused Vinod Nagar (25), a resident of Mahmood Nagar village in Greater Noda, were living together for the last three years.
Superintendent of police, Greater Noida (Rural) Abhishek Singh said the woman is a widow with three children — Arun (10), Aman (7) and Sonam (12).
Her husband was a driver and he had died five years ago, said the police official.
“Vinod on Wednesday threw acid at the woman over some personal differences and fled from the spot,” he added.
Victim’s 10-year-old son Arun was also at the spot when the incident took place, said the officer. Arun told police that he, along with his mother, was coming from Jhajhar, from their maternal home when Vinod threw acid at her.
“Vinod was on a bike and stopped nearby us. After which he had an argument with my mother. And then he suddenly took out the acid bottle from his pocket and threw at my mother,” he said. After throwing the acid, the accused fled from the spot to be arrested later on.
