A 24-year-old spurned lover who had kidnapped father of  the girl he wanted to marry was arrested by Delhi Police within 24 hours of committing the crime. Police said the accused Sanjeev alias Sanju, had hatched a conspiracy to kidnap girl’s father after his proposal of marriage was rejected by the girl’s family.

The accused Sanju is a resident of AmanVihar in Meerut (Uttar Pradesh). According to Anto Alphonse, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Dwarka district, on May 26 at about 8.19 am, a Police Control Room (PCR) call was received in the Dwarka North police station in which the caller, owner of a building material shop, complained that when he reached his shop in the morning at about 7.45 am he could not found his Munshi.

“During initial investigation it was revealed that about 3.00 am on May 26, 3-4 persons came in a white coloured car to the shop and took away Munshi in the car. Accordingly, a case under section 365 of Indian Penal Code (IPC) was registered and investigation was taken up,” said the DCP.

“During investigation, the team approached son of the victim who told police that a phone call was received by his sister on her mobile from two different mobile numbers.  His father spoke to her and informed that presently he was in Sonepat and advised her to marry  Sanju, as he is a good boy,” said the DCP.

“Acting on the inputs, the police team immediately put the suspected mobile numbers on electronic surveillance and the location of the said numbers was traced at Mathura. A police team was dispatched for the location where accused Sanju was apprehended from Mathura railway station. The kidnapped man was also rescued by the police,” said the DCP.

“During interrogation, the accused disclosed that he wanted to marry daughter of the victim but  he declined his proposal. Angry over the refusal the accused hatched a plan with his friend to kidnap father of the girl he was in love with. The accused thought that he can put pressure on the father of the girl to marry him.  He borrowed a car (Accent- white color) from a common friend on the pretext of visiting some place and kidnapped the victim,” said the DCP.
