The severe quantum of punishment against the two convicts — Amit Shukla and Ravi Kapoor — in Jigisha Ghosh murder case came after it saw no reform in them. The two men were sentenced to death on Monday while Baljit Malik was given life sentence.
The court’s judgment on Monday was strongly based on the Pre-Sentencing Report (PSR) filed by a probation officer deputed by the Delhi Government. In its report, the officer examined the conduct of the three convicts in the judicial custody.
According to the pre-sentencing report, it was witnessed that the two men, who have been handed down death sentence, were indulging in many disorderly behaviour. They were involved in criminal activities even after being inside jail premises. Ravi Kapoor made several attempts to escape from the custody.
First, when he was produced in Safdarjung Hospital for health checkup.
He later tried escaping by throwing chili powder on a police official inside the jail campus. Objectionable items were also recovered from them.
Similarly the other convict, Amit Shukla too was involved in several cases of extortion even when he was inside jail which is a very serious issue.
