A jawan of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself at the CRPF headquarters situated in the CGO complex on Wednesday.

Head Constable Hemant Kumar (25) was found lying in a pool of blood in a bathroom on the ground floor of the CRPF headquarters at about 10 am, a Delhi Police official said.

Officials said Head Constable Hemant was working in the public relations cell of CRPF and was on morning duty when the incident took place.

He shot himself from a pistol that he had brought with himself, they said and added that soon after the gun shot was heard in the well secured CRPF headquarters under the jurisdiction of lodhi Road police station, troops in the vicinity and those in the Armed Quick Reaction Team reached the spot.

“A court of enquiry has been ordered and senior officials of the force have rushed to the spot,” they said.

This is probably the first time that any such suicide incident has taken place right inside the CRPF headquarter, they added. Hemant Kumar had joined the force in 2012, the official said.
