Jats' image being tarnished: leaders

The Jat leaders from Haryana alleged on Friday that an attempt is being made to tarnish the image of the Jat community. While demanding that the reservation be given to the Jats as the Union Government has already committed, they also appealed for an investigation into the “conspiracy” to defame Jat community.

During a Press conference in New Delhi, various Jat leaders and heads of Khap panchayats came together in a show of solidarity demanding their demands be met as the Government had already agreed to them.

Chaudhary Omvir Singh, founder of Vishwa Jat Chetna Manch, said, “I promise you that the Jats are not alone. Along with all the Jat communities of Haryana, the Jats of the whole world are standing together. And those who are not, we will go to their homes and wake them up. But I want to clarify that our andolan will be peaceful.”

Alleging political conspiracy behind the Haryana riots during the Jat quota stir, he, along with Ranvir Singh Renu, SS Sandhu, Dr. VP Singh, Udaiveer Singh Khokkhar and Udaiveer Rathi, demanded a CBI or judicial enquiry to be set up to investigate who was behind the incidents “aimed at tarnishing the image of the Jat community”.

“We also demand that reservation, which is our right, should be given to us by the date that the Government has committed. As for the incidents in Rohtak and other parts of Haryana, detailed investigation should be done as to who instigated violence, who blocked the roads, who damaged the property and who raped the women,” he said.

He added that the Jat community is with the victims of the riots and will offer all monetary support to those whose property was destroyed.

“Unfortunately, the Jat community was portrayed very negatively when it appealed for the reservation of the Jats in the public sector/Government jobs. It is a community whose contribution is undeniable in almost every field, be it the freedom struggle or the share of its farmers in the green, white and blue revolutions,” he added.
