Jat stir takes shine off Happening Haryana

In a positive move, the Haryana Government has decided to go ahead with the Happening Haryana investment meet — limiting the four-day event to just two days in light of the recent Jat quota stir. Haryana Chief Minister Manohar lal Khattar said the enthusiasm of investors has remained intact and hoped for the success of the event. He also credited the “inherent strength” of the people of State for helping him decide to go ahead with the event albeit without the “glitz and glam”, which was earlier planned.

“We had been preparing for the Happening Haryana meet for a long time in order to make the State the preferred destination for investors. But in the last 15 days, we have gone through some difficult times. But I assure everyone that the enthusiasm of investors remained intact and the event will be successful,” he said.

Khattar, however, clarified that the event will now be just a two-day affair with only business activities. All the cultural activities, as well as an NRI programme that was earlier planned, have been cancelled in light of the recent Jat quota stir.

“A lot of people have been asking why organise the event at all even after the unfortunate event. But there is an inherent strength in the people of Haryana that enables us to cross all hurdles and make the event a grand success,” he added.

Meanwhile, Haryana Finance Minister Captain Abhimanyu said the event is going to be historic not just because it is a first for the State, but also because it will break all records in terms of investments coming in during the event.

“The registrations have been beyond expectations. We have 12 nations partnering with us for the event… While investors factor in law and order situation among other factors while making an investment, but they also consider how the society and the State face that unforeseen eventuality,” he said.

Khattar and Capt Abhimanyu were speaking at the launch of a three-tier Grievance Redressal System and Dispute Settlement Mechaism at Hotel leela in Gurgaon. Incidentally, the Happening Haryana meet is also being organised at the same venue on March 7 and 8. The meet is expected to be inaugurated by Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley.

Earlier, the event was supposed to kick off with a golfing session on March 6 and was supposed to continue till March 9, when the NRI event Pravasi Divas was to be held.
