Jamia Millia Islamia may soon have its own students’ union similar to other central universities like Jawaharlal Nehru University and Delhi University. The newly-appointed Vice-Chancellor of the university Talat Ahmad said during a Press conference on Wednesday that there is a high possibility of student elections being held this year. However, he did not specify how the elections would be conducted. “We will encourage student unions now. We want students to be proactive and this is a good way of learning for them as well. Elections will mostly be this year but I have yet not decided in what way it will be conducted. This matter is currently sub-judice in court. Thus, I will wait for the final nod on conducting elections come and then give clarity on the issue,” said the V-C.
