A day after the Jamia Millia Islamia administration took umbrage to the Delhi Police entering into the campus without prior permission, it has filed an official complaint with police in connection with the police crackdown on the campus on Sunday night.
According to the spokesperson of the university, a complaint has been sent to the SHO of Jamia Nagar police station, a copy of which has also been sent to the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) of southeast district.
Earlier Najma Akhtar, Vice Chancellor of JMI demanded a high-level probe into the incident. Stating that nearly 200 students have been injured, the V-C said that the atrocity against students, especially inside the library, was unacceptable.
Akhtar asserted the university will not tolerate police presence on campus. She also made it clear that the Jamia administration will not allow any political person to visit the university and will only coordinate with the HRD Ministry.
"Police entered the campus without permission. We will not tolerate their presence on the campus. They scared our students with brutality. There has been huge damage to university property," said Akhtar.
"We will file a complaint on damage of property and police action on students. We want a high-level inquiry. I will present facts to the HRD Minister. I have already spoken to the HRD Secretary and briefed him about the situation," she added
The V-C appealed to people not to believe in rumors. She denied that any student died during Sunday's violence, but said 200 were injured.
