Now is the time to work for slum-dwellers in the city, which is possible only if Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Housing for All by 2022’ scheme is implemented, Delhi BJP chief Manoj Tiwari said on after visiting slum clusters on Sunday. The visit was to thank the slum dwellers for supporting BJP during the recently concluded municipal polls.

Tiwari also said that he is committed towards upliftment of the lives of the Delhi’s ‘jhuggi’ dwellers. Tiwari visited Surajpur Jhuggi Basti in Samaypur  Badli of north Delhi to learn about the problems of the families living there.

Tiwari who has been meeting jhuggi dwellers ever since he took charge as Delhi BJP president soon after BJP’s victory in civic elections had his Sunday morning breakfast with the family of Rajan and Sanjana at Samaypur Badli’s Surajpur Jhuggi Basti. He met this family during recent election campaign and had promised to visit the jhuggi dwellers for a discussion on their needs.

leader of Opposition (loP) in Delhi Assembly, Vijender Gupta and Councillor Preety Agarwal accompanied the Delhi Pradesh president. Tiwari also met the victims of last night’s fire at a rag pickers Jhuggi Cluster at a Dargah Complex in Village Begumpur at Malviya Nagar.

This fire left over 50 jhuggi dwellers homeless who also lost the little rag picking money collection they had. The fire has also damaged over 6 Jhuggi Homes of adjoining Balmiki Basti Camp.

“The jhuggi dwellers have a crucial role of Delhi’s development but it is regrettable that no Government has brought a holistic policy for their cohesive betterment,” said Tiwari.

“The time and again fire mishaps wreck the lives of jhuggi dwellers in Delhi and Governments be it of the Congress or the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) just offer partly compensation to absolve them of legal and moral responsibility to better their lives,” he added.
