It's not the heat, it's the humidity

Delhiites had to bear with extreme humid conditions on Monday as the humidity level remained as high as 92 per cent. Even as the day temperature remained well below the 40°C mark, the sultry weather made life tough for the city dwellers. There may be no respite for the people in the national Capital as the MeT Department has predicted similar weather conditions on Tuesday with possibility of light rains.

According to the MeT Department, the maximum temperature, on Monday, settled at 37.2°C, which was one notch above the normal level. Following overnight rains, the minimum temperature was recorded two points below normal at 25.2°C. Till 8.30 am, 5.2 mm of rain was recorded in the national Capital during the last 24 hours. However, the rain gauge measured no rainfall between 8.30 am to 5.30 pm on the Monday. The rainfall, however, caused humidity level to shoot up since morning itself. The level remained between 92 per cent and 55 per cent during the day, leaving Delhiites sweating, the MeT said.

The sultry weather conditions are here to stay for a while as the pre-monsoon showers are occurring only intermittently raising the moisture level in the air, said an official. The weatherman has forecast a partly cloudy sky with possibilities of light rains and thunderstorms in some areas during the day on Tuesday. “The maximum and minimum are expected to be around 37°C and 25°C, respectively,” the official said. On Sunday, the maximum temperature was recorded at 39°C and minimum at 30°C.
