With elections inching closer, Delhi unit of the BJP is shifting gears. Besides public meetings and rallies, the party will be approaching voters at kitty parties, religious gatherings and at parks during morning and evening walks.

Delhi BJP president Vijay Goel said party workers would reach out to voters in their areas with an idea to target the working class, often found to be missing from public meetings.

Goel said BJP workers would take the party’s agenda that focuses on benefit of the marginalised section, to the masses. “We will spare no efforts in communicating our agenda and development plans to the voters. We will also bring forth failure of the Delhi Government, which has only made false promises to the people. Party workers will be approaching people at all places of public gathering. This includes kitty parties, religious gatherings and also while people are out for a walk,” he said.

Goel was speaking after the first meeting of the newly constituted State Executive Committee on Tuesday. Senior party leader and leader of Opposition in Delhi Assembly VK Malhotra said this way of interacting with voters was in practice since long. He, however, said it was not appropriate to discuss political issues or seek votes at religious gatherings.

Goel said full statehood for Delhi, safety of women and children and development of villages were the top priorities. In the State executive meeting, the party also passed a political resolution to this effect. “We have demanded full statehood for Delhi as this will end multiplicity of authorities in the National Capital. Unfortunately, the Congress Government has done nothing to get full statehood for Delhi. The key issues in the assembly polls will be power, water, development in villages, unauthorized colonies, JJ clusters and slums,” the BJP president said.

“In the Assembly Polls, BJP will be presenting an alternative model of development where all sections of the society will be benefited. Special focus will be on youth, women and the marginalized sections of the society,” Goel added. During the state executive meeting, the members also came up with suggestions about future strategy of the party to contest assembly polls. A number of them suggested that the party must take up an extensive campaign to highlight its achievements in the MCDs and failures of Delhi government.

Earlier, inaugurating the state executive meeting at Constitution Club, senior BJP leader Murli Manohar Joshi too emphasised on upliftment of the weaker sections of the society.

“The party must focus on marginalised sections of the society while preparing for polls in Delhi. Delhi is ready for change after 14 years of misrule of Congress. The victory in assembly polls in Delhi will also help the party to form a Government at the Centre,” Joshi said. BJP General Secretary Ananth Kumar said he was confident that the party cadres will remove the Congress from power in Delhi.
